Gradually, the lives of the characters create unsuspected parallelisms, as if Cuban history finds outlets for its fury on the individual destinies of those who stand out for their talent: accusations, exiles and political intrigues have a place in the lives of all creators, regardless of the historical period in which they live. This book is a history of Cuba and a trip to the root of its national conscience through the life of its first great poet.
