Chahaignes is a commune in the Sarthe department in the region of Pays-de-la-Loire in north-western France. Pays de la Loire is one of the 22 regions of France. It is one of the regions created in the late 20th century to serve as a zone of influence for its capital, Nantes, one of a handful so-called "balancing metropolises." Other examples of "artificially created" regions include Rh ne-Alpes, which was created as the region for Lyon, and Midi-Pyr n es, which was created as the region for Toulouse.
