This minor but groundbreaking metamorphosis is usually expressed as a heightened mental awareness, the result of an evolutionary adaptation to life in space. As such, Newtypes are seen to appear among Spacenoids (space-dwelling human beings, most notably Kamille Bidan), although not exclusively (Amuro Ray, arguably the most famous Newtype, was actually born as an Earthnoid). Newtypes are an integral part of the Universal Century timeline (chronologically the first), but the same concept is also present in the After War timeline.
