Samuel Elmo Martin (24 January 1924 - 28 November 2009) was a
professor of Far Eastern Languages at Yale University and the
author of many works on the Korean and Japanese languages.After
Martin retired from Yale University, he moved to Washington state,
where his wife Nancy Rendell Martin had grown up, and close to
Portland, Oregon, where his daughter Norah Martin taught
philosophy. During his retirement, Martin continued research on a
variety of linguistic topics, notably Middle Korean.
