Treaty of Arbitration between Chile and Argentina of 1902, also known as the Pacts of May, established the present day boundaries between Argentina and Chile in Patagonia between the latitudes of 40 and 52 S. As result of the treaty many Patagonian lakes became divided in one Chilean and one Argentine side. The boundary agreed on the treaty was a compromise between the Chilean and Argentine boundary thesis that was established by the British king who acted as arbiter.
