According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 36.0 square miles (93.2 km ), of which, 34.6 square miles (89.5 km ) of it is land and 1.4 square miles (3.6 km ) of it (3.89%) is water. As of the census of 2000, there were 3,275 people, 1,139 households, and 930 families residing in the township. The population density was 94.8 per square mile (36.6/km ). There were 1,166 housing units at an average density of 33.7/sq mi (13.0/km ). The racial makeup of the township was 97.65% White, 0.43% African American, 0.18% Native American, 0.06% Asian, 0.67% from other races, and 1.01% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.74% of the population.
