The community borders the Fish Creek Provincial Park to the south, and is lined on the east side by the Canyon Meadows Golf course. Woodlands was established in 1976. It is represented in the Calgary City Council by Ward 13 Alderman Diane Colley-Urquhart. In 2006 the neighbourhood had a population of 6,529.
