Ynysforgan (Paperback)

, ,
High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Ynysforgan is a village near Swansea, Glamorgan, Wales. It lies on the M4 motorway, just off Junction 45, geographically between Morriston and Ynystawe. The origins of the name are unclear but Ynys is Welsh for island and forgan is a mutation of the name Morgan so a reasonable translation would therefore be Morgans Island. Another possible meaning of Ynys is 'river-meadow' which would explain the current lack of evidence for an island ever being in the area. The river Tawe runs in the vicinty of Ynysforgan so its not unreasonable to speculate there may be some localised historical connection. Several other locations also use the term Ynys in their names including Ynystawe (neighboring village to Ynysforgan); Ynysmedwy (near Pontardawe) and Ynystanglws Farm (near Ynystawe). However, as historically insignificant as Ynysforgan may seem it holds a hidden gem unknown to most locals and has its name embedded in the annals of Welsh time. In the latter part of the Middle Ages (circa 1330 - 1403) Ynysforgan was the home of Hopcyn ap Tomas ab Einion.
