Wink at the Devil (Paperback)

Leann lives on a sheep and wheat farm near the small Midwestern town of Dolby. A curious child, Leann has more questions than most rst-graders-questions about who she is and what happened to her in the past. Who is the tall stranger who introduces her to cherry Coke, and how does he know that her dog, Tip, knows how to shake hands? The mystery deepens when Leann nds an un nished baby dress under her mom's bed, but no one will answer Leann's questions: Why isn't the dress nished, and who does it belong to? Adding to her confusion, Leann has recurring dreams about being carried to a large department store's perfume counter, and being picked up from the snow after surviving an airplane crash. Will Leann ever discover the truth about her past? This engaging debut novel offers mystery as well as a snapshot of rural life in the 1950s and 1960s-a time when children learned about life from the hardships and joys of farm life. About the Author Laura A. Hansen is a freelance writer who grew up on a sheep and wheat farm. Wink at the Devil vividly describes this way of life. Laura loved being outside, getting dirty, and taking care of animals. She attended public grade school in a small town and belonged to a 4-H club-a program to teach agriculture skills, self-improvement, and involvement in the community. During her senior year in high school, she was president of the Future Homemakers of America and won the Homemaker of Tomorrow award. Laura's hobbies include gardening, art, and reading good books. She became a wife, mother, and nurse after graduating from high school and tries always to have a pet around-preferably a cat. Wink at the Devil is her rst novel.
