Ans.--In reply to letters to the third class cities of the state the following information was given by the chiefs of police: Applcton--This city has no ordinance regulating pool and billiard halls. They usually close about 12 o'clock. Beloit--The city has a pool and billiard ordinance requiring such rooms to be closed promptly at 11 P. M., and to remain closed until 6 A. M. of each week day, and also to be closed on Sunday. This ordinance is strictly enforced. Eau Claire--This city is operating under an ordinance regulating pool and billiard halls. They run every day in the week, Sunday included, between the hours of 6 A. M. and 12 o'clock midnight. Boys under the age of sixteen are not permitted to use the tables or to loiter about. This rule is strictlv enforced. The police have no trouble at all in getting the managers of the pool rooms to observe our orders. Green Bay--This city has at the present time no ordinance or regulation on' the subject, but it is contemplating the passage of an ordinance in the near future. Kenosha--Pool and billiard halls are regulated the same as saloons--they close at 11 P. M. on week days, except Saturday night, when they run till midnight. On Sunday saloons are closed at 8 P. M., but pool and billiard halls are allowed to run till midnight. No minors are allowed in such places unless permitted by parents. They are closed from 12 to 6 A. M. There is no ordinance, but a police regulation approved by the mayor and common council is in force. Madifson--This city has no pool and billiard ordinance. Such rooms are permitted to be open week days and Sundays. An effort is made, however, to keep minors out. Manitowoc--Neither saloons nor pool and billiard rooms are closed ...
