Anaerobic Treatment in Tropical Countries - Seminar Proceedings (Paperback)

,
This book presents current information related to modern anaerobic treatment technologies and their use in tropical countries. Over the last decade, increases in energy prices have made anaerobic processes for wastewater treatment very attractive, beyond their utilization for sludge and solid waste stabilization. Emphasis has been given to the development of new reactor systems with greater efficiency and higher treatment rates. Developments in knowledge of the microbiology and biochemistry of the process have increased the understanding of phenomena occurring in these new systems. Furthermore, in tropical countries, where temperatures are suitable for anaerobic treatment, the trend towards utilization of this process will continue. In developing tropical countries, where the conventional aerobic processes are not extensively used because of the costs involved, the direct utilization of new anaerobic treatment technology becomes even more attractive.
