The ACEES book has many specific features that are not found in
other related materials. The goal of the text is to provide
practical teaching tools and transformative perspectives, to
empower English-language-learners of secondary content area
This book provides insight into the legal foundation,
cross-cultural issues, second language acquisition, adolescent
literacy, instructional technology, and testing and assessment of
English-language-learners. There are activities for teachers to
explore aspects of instructing ELL students that concentrate on
academic language and presenting comprehensible instruction. There
are many strategies, techniques, and tools included which teachers
can use in daily classroom practice.
ACEES was created for teachers and facilitators to utilize in
Teaching English Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) Training for
secondary 6-12 grade instructors of content areas, such as math,
science, and social studies. The text is designed to provide a
guideline for professional development to assist secondary teachers
in effective instruction of ELL students and in meeting achievement
standards emanating from the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001. The
text can be a guide for training courses to meet endorsement
requirements for state certification.
