Storytelling is a great CONNECTOR between you and your child.
What is the purpose of the book...
The Adventures of Me I'm the Star is intended to be read to boys, ages 6-10 years old. A time shared - set a side for you and your child - to live an adventure, to expand his imagination and most important, to have fun.
What makes this book personal...
The book is particularly fun, as the storyteller reads the child's name, his friends and relatives into the adventure story lines. Your child becomes the hero of the story - he is the STAR At the end of each chapter, there is a page for your child to illustrate his adventure. He will in turn, share his adventure with you, his storyteller
There are eleven Adventures that he and his friends will share. He may choose a different friend, every time he reads one of the adventures. His imagination will take him and friends through strange lands, treasure hunts, snorkeling fun, a haunted house and many others adventures.
What will my child learn...
There are morals to the stories, but they are woven into the adventure and not preached. Stories will teach simple things such as, being prepared, honesty is best, there is no place like home, there are consequences to your actions...etc. Most important, a child will learn to stretch his imagination and see himself as a hero.
"Bedtime stories can gently teach life lessons, even as they lull children off to sleep. They can comfort a worried child, or plant the skills to overcome a problem. 'One of the things a lot of the old stories did was they put you in a bad situation and got you out of it.'" (Janelle Reardon, President of the Ohio Order for the Preservationof Storytelling, Author Margaret Bernstein, Newhouse New Service, Mpls. Star & Tribune 9/27/2007, E3)
I hope this book encourages you to make up stories to tell your children...stories where their imagination is limited only - to closing their eyes and letting your words fill their heart.
