Even though the movies are not in colour, the movies are the 'on the tip of your chair' kind of movies. The leading actress also plays Ms Marple brilliantly! I will recommend these to anybody any day.

MURDER MOST FOUL: This is the <i> third </i> of a series of four of Agatha Cristie's four novels that feature Miss Marpls - the wide-awake little amateur detective of uncertain age, who is played by the one and only Dame Margaret Rutherford; and Stringer Davis (Jim Stringer – Margaret Rutherford's real-life husband,) Also in the cast are Ron Moody, and Dennis Price. Margaret McGinty, a barmaid and former actress, is found hanged, and her lodger, Harold Taylor, caught at the scene, seems plainly guilty. Everyone believes it to be an open-and-shut case ... except for Miss Marple. She is the lone holdout in the jury that tries him, leading to a mistrial. Miss Marple engineers to get herself an acting job with a local repertory company in order to sniff out who the <i> real </i> is, much to the despair of Police Inspector Craddock (Bud Thingwell) and his men. There are a few other murders along the line...until Miss Marple finally succeeds in unraveling the whole plot! Her final line is taken from a play by H D Cotsgood (Ron Moody) in which she ws given a part: " "Mr Cosgood, whatever else I am, I am definitely no angel." MURDER AT THE GALLOP:This is the second of the four adaptations of Agatha Christie novels that feature Miss Marple – a quaint, elderly lady who proves to be as sharp as a brand-new razor blade! Dame Margaret Rutherford is a true delight in the role of Miss Marple, supported by Mr Stringer (Stringer Davis – her husband in real life. In this little masterpiece, the hand-picked cast includes Robert Morley, a surprisingly youthful-looking Dame Flora Robson, and Finlay Currie. Plot: Miss Marple and Mr Stringer are soliciting donations for a charity. During the course of their brief call at the home of one elderly Mr Enderby – a well-known rich and eccentric recluse, the good gentleman falls down a flight of stairs and dies of a fatal heart attack! Later, Miss Marple “accidentally” overhears the will’s being read, and learns that the beneficiaries are Mr Enderby’s four surviving relatives, and their partners. She also hears a remark that causes her to believe that the death was no accident; rather a <i>murder,</i> and each of the four has adequate motive for having done the dastardly deed! Of course, the long-suffering Police Inspector Craddock (Bud Tingwell) won’t believe a word of it…until the beneficiaries start being killed off one after another! Each of the Miss Marple pictures is well-worth seeing, and in this one, we have the added benefit of have Robert Morley playing a typical role as Enderby’s only son, Hector.
