Professor Zockler calls him 'the pious and enlightened, and withal truly humble Jesuit, Baltasar Alvarez: '1 Sacchinus, the Jesuit chronicler, speaks of him as one not caring to have many penitents, but rather striving to make a few better through continual growth; above all things, making a law to himself to speak to his penitents only of divine things; refusing all gifts or allurements of private friendship; and pleased that they should occasionally go to other advisers.
