Nothing can be inferr'd from this Text in favour of Annihilation. It does not relate to the Retributions of the World to come; but to the Dispositions of Providence, and the Judgments of God, with regard to Nations, or People, in this World. It is one Instance, amongst the rest, that the Scripture does not use the word aT-A-ct, (Destruclion, ) in the Philosophical Sense of Annihilation. N LIX. 1 Cor. i. 18.--The preaching of the Cross is to them that perish, Foolishness: But unto us which are saved, it is the Power of God. It is plain what is here meant by the word peri/h: Them that perijh, is explain'd by the Opposition of--us which are saved. The former are not saved, and therefore in that Sense they perijh, or are lost.
