As of old many cities in Greece asserted that they were the
birthplace of Homer, the national poet, so a number of cities
disputed for the honor of being the birthplace of Rashi, or of
having been his residence, or the scene of his death. Worms claimed
him as one of its rabbis, Lunel, thanks to a confusion of names,
has passed as his birthplace, and Prague as the city of his death.
