Every year the fifth graders at Pine Heights Elementary School spend a week at a local nature preserve, learning about ecology and the environment, and going hiking, spelunking, and even panning for gold! Allie Finkle is excited about sharing a cabin with her best friends Barbara and Erika, especially since her beloved Ms. Hunter will be staying with them...but she's not excited that Scott Stamphley has been assigned to their nature team. But when she sees Scott outside the classroom, in the world of nature which he loves so much, suddenly she gets a whole new perspective on him...and even on snakes! And as the competition between nature teams heats up, Allie learns it's better to have Scott on your side than against you!
