After You Died (Paperback)

For the four friends jogging their regular morning route, along the sleepy suburban streets of Fish Hoek, nothing could have warned them of what was to come. Trying to take a short cut and win favour with his taxi boss, a young driver Tshepo Dlamini crashes into one of the runners. As Claire's lifeless body lies crumpled on the ground, Tshepo finds himself trapped in a metal carcass. What's left of his life is turned upside down.

Watching the accident happen, Maureen stands on her balcony and is the only witness. Yet she harbours another dark secret.

To save his life, Tshepo's leg is so badly injured that it must be amputated. Maureen must learn to deal with her husband's addiction and build her own life. No longer the awesome foursome, Tanya, Liz and Kate reframe their friendship without Claire and overcome their fears and inertia. For James, Claire's adoring boyfriend, his life begins to unravel as he wakes to the news that Claire is dead, leaving him to question life as it was and will be.

From shock to acceptance, each chapter is a journey, and as each person tries to move forward with their lives, they must face their mistakes, set against the complex backdrop of small town South Africa. Showing that there is always hope, and that change is inevitable, each character must learn to forgive themselves and others, but for some, the hope of closure may be harder than they thought.

Small details were off putting: meringues onside a roasted chicken? Women today described as "wenches". The division of the book into Kubler- Ross's stahes of dealinh with terminal illness didnt

Dear Melina, When Kerry read the first sentence on the back of your book I knew I wanted to read it now! And I have read it in a few days and absolutely loved It. Loved the cape town vibe (I'm ex CT), loved the south africanisms, loved the characters, the drama. Really great plot. I've worked with amputees and at Victoria hospital and lentegeur (I'm an OT), so really identified. Easy to read, easy to follow, no errors in grammar or anything (my pet hate). Last page made me grumpy 臘‍♀ but I'm hooked into the next book I guess!. Clever frame work of kubler ross 7 stages too. Thanks for a great escape! Thoroughly enjoyed. Sorry not on Twitter etc so thought I'd just ask kerry to forward. Regards, Sally Mackenzie.

I am picky on storyline and emotional connection and will drop a book after a few pages if it does not grab me. "After You Died" had me hooked from the first couple of pages, and I was taken on an emotional roller coaster. If you looking for a every day South African story that feels familiar and gripping this will have your immersed.

You really get immersed in the lives and feelings of the different characters after a tragic event. I loved it!

A gripping story told compassionately and peopled with well rounded characters who felt like old friends by the time I got all too quickly to the last page. PS. Fish Hoek is exactly as described.

Easy to read, makes me think about my feelings and how to look at other peoples feelings. Enjoyed it and recommend it.

Set in South Africa , and relevant to our time and circumstances. A good read for all South Africans encompassing various layers in our society.

Fantastic beach read!
