Excerpt: ...always lie between the epithelial cells, never within them, and as a consequence the epithelial cells seemed to be pushed aside by the intercalated lymphocytes. Origin.--The origin of these lymphocytal aggregations is very difficult to decide.-I have been unable to satisfy myself that they are formed from any of the pre-existing cells of the FIGUEE 1. Division either by mitosis or amitosis is never to be observed in them. They lie free within the spaces of the tissue meshwork, and I have been unable to find transitional forms between them and endothelial cells on the one hand or plasma cells on the other. It is true that in sections prepared with Pappenheim's stain the large mononuclear leucocytes are stained in a somewhat similar manner to the plasma cells, and between the former and the lymphocyte undoubted gradations of form can be observed. In these tissues, however, the large mononuclear leucocyte is too rare to be suspected of originating the enormous number of lymphocytes present. If not formed by the tissues on the spot it is clear that these cells must have been borne thither either by the blood or lymph streams. As regards blood...
