Not illustrated. 1871 Excerpt: ... to the school lands and funds of our county, I hnve to state: 1. Our county has had in round numbers say 38,240 acres of swamp and sixteenth seetioc of school lands, the principal portion of which has been sold as provided by law, bringing generally jl 25 per acre. 2. The State school funds received by our county from year to year have been distributed ninong the several school districts and townships as by law provided. 3. $3,000 00 or thereabouts, of the funds arising from the sale of swamp and sixteenth section school lands have been lost by loans on insufficient security and failure of county attorney, county court or clerk to attend the sales under mortgages, and make the mortgaged property, bring the amount of debt or loan. Parker, Rodman and Johnson, State Board of Education: Dear Sirs--Your circular of May 10th, is before me, and in answer to first question, woslc say that I have no records giving the amount of swamp lands in this county, but so tar as I caa ascertain all the swamp lands have been sold. 2. The State School Fond, drawn from the State, has been regularly distributed to the oraized schools. 3. There has been, from the best information I can gain, about one-half of the funds arising m sale of swamp and sixteenth sections lands cosh. Caused from previous county courts not uiring sufficient security. The courts allowing parties to borrow ninety-nine dollars or less hout giving real estate security.
