Men are men. Jean Claude and Richard are each something else entirely. Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter, torn between them, has been avoiding both vampire and werewolf for months. But when a kidnapper targets innocents she has sworn to protect, Anita turns to them for help, which will require harnessing both their powers—and their hungers…
Anita is still her difficult self, which makes her a great character to follow. The characters are real and alive, the writing is strong and vivid with believable dialog and the situations are exhilarating. Anita shows her real human side when she has trouble handling her pard and members of the lukoi, she finds herself caught between the monsters and humans once again, only now she is clearly on the side of the monsters and one thing is for sure, Anita will do just about anything to help her friends and she has quite a list of followers who will protect her with their lives too. Anita achieves the level of Master Necromancer, enhances her status as human servant to Jean-Claude and acquires a vampire servant of her very own. She also becomes Bolverk of the Thronnos Rokke Clan, Nimir-Ra, (with her own Nimira-Raj), of the Blooddrinkers Pard, and a lycanthrope politician, of sorts. To me, this feels like a transitional book and if this is anything to go by the best is going to get even better!
