Excerpt: ... MINUTES OF THE THIRTY-SEVENTH ANNUAL CONVENTION OF THE NATIONAL AMERICAN WOMAN SUFFRAGE ASSOCIATION. Business Committee Meetings Enroute to Portland, June 24th, 26th, 1905. The President in the chair and Anthony, Catt, Blackwell, Clay, Eaton and Hauser, representing Upton, present. Mrs. Catt announced that she would propose an amendment to By-Law III, providing for the election of Standing and Special Committees before, instead of after, the Convention. Miss Hauser reported an invitation for the 1906 convention from the Maryland W. S. A. In order to accept this invitation it was found necessary to recommend to the Convention the changing of the word "shall" to "may" in the second sentence of Sec. 1 By-Law 1. It was agreed that the Chairmen of Special Committees should be members of the Executive Committee and the Recording Secretary was instructed to offer an amendment to Sec. 1, Art. VI of the Constitution, inserting the words "and Special." Voted to accept the plates of the Song Leaflets offered by the Massachusetts W. S. A. The rest of the session was devoted to literature and methods of increasing membership. Committee reassembled in the afternoon. Voted that Miss Clay select the chairman of the Committee on Church Work. The Recording Secretary was instructed to offer an amendment to By-Law III, adding the Literature Committee to the list of Standing Committees. Mrs. Boyer's report as chairman of the Committee on Libraries was read and accepted and it was voted to continue this committee until its work is finished and to instruct Mrs. Boyer to obtain estimates on the cost of printing her catalogue.
