The Interstate Commerce Commission has ordered a reduction to the $2 per hundred rate of a year ago, in the transportation charge for drugs and chemicals from the Atlantic seaboard to transcontinental points. The change becomes effective October 18th. The present rate is $3.70 Escaping steam from a heating-plant in the cellar bleached the furniture in the store of Beddoe & Chrisler, at Bedford, Ind., and damaged the stock. Superintendent Johnson of the California Department of Weights and Measures has instructed sealers to require that all commodities in package form sold by druggists, when such commodity is but one ingredient, that is, sulphur, tincture of arnica, epsom salt, castor oil, and so on, be of definite net measure. What variables are allowed for liquids has not been reported. At its September luncheon, the Portland (Ore.) Retail Druggists' Association informally reiterated its support of the Stevens price-maintenance bill and indorsed the complaint of the Public Service League against the two local telephone companies, in which the state public service commission is asked to order an interchange of service.
