But I will not fill your valuable space in mentioning each variety separately, but content myself with saying each class represented made a good show. One of the great, if not the greatest, attractions of the poultry show was the incubator contest between the "Reliance." of Providence, and the "Eclipse," of Waltham, for the prize for hatching the largest percentage of I fertile eggs contained in each machine. Both incubators did well, but the "Reliance" won the day and carried off the prize, hatching 89 13-33 percent, of the fertile eggs. When we take into consideration that the owner of the "Reliance" brought his machine over sixty-five miles in the cars, with eggs in the drawer and lamp burning, we think his machine stood a severe test remarkably well. This contest attracted a large number of people, quite a number coming from Boston entirely on that account. Ladies and children are especially interested in the little chickens, and each time the incubators were opened exclamations of wonder and delight were heard, as the downy little fellows were transferred to the brooders. Several hundred chicks were hatched. We believe this is the only contest of the kind ever attempted and carried out in this coun-1 try, and we hope there will be more of them in the future, j as it adds greatly to the interest of the show and helps to make it a financial success.
