Peter David Robinson (born 29 December 1948) is the current First Minister of Northern Ireland and leader of the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP). He has been actively involved in Northern Irish politics since 1970 when he became a founding member of Ian Paisley's Democratic Unionist Party.In 1977, Robinson was elected as a councillor to the Castlereagh Borough Council in Dundonald, Belfast and in 1979 he became the youngest serving Member of Parliament (MP) when he was narrowly elected as MP for Belfast East. He held this seat until being defeated in May 2010, making him the longest-serving MP for any Belfast constituency since the 1800 Act of Union.
