Spiritual Wellbeing and Communication in Law Enforcement - Spirituality (Paperback)

Abstract: Law enforcement today has evolved into more than just barking orders and expecting people to follow. The communication process is a highly technical process that most people do not realize. There is a greater possibility of misunderstanding when there are more people that are put into the receiving of the message the more garbled the message can become. For this reason it is important for upper and middle management to make the message as clear as possible. Therefore insuring that the message sent is the message received. When dealing with life and death situations it is not enough to say, "are you ok, or go do this" when you know they may have witnessed their first gruesome murder or there are still tasks left unfinished. As human beings, managers may not always have the answers to the questions and should not try to take the place of the higher power that should be sought to get the deeper questions answered. Spirituality calls for the wounded to rely on more than the survival mechanisms that are known to human nature and it gives the officer the ability to strive toward the "vitality and holistic wellness" needed to recover from the worst catastrophic life changing events known to effect law enforcement personnel. Plus other readings.
