Short-listed for the Earthwarm Award 1993 this book features three teenagers - a journalist, an artist and a saxophonist - who join an expedition deep into the heart of one of the world's last great unspoiled rain forests, in Brunei. They learn about the Argus pheasant, the Beethoven bird and the six o'clock cicada, encounter the ant-lady, flying snakes and luminous mushrooms, search the forest floor at night for nocturnal amphibians, and come face-to-face with the realities of deforestation. They also meet their counterparts in Brunei and compare experiences of the rain forest.
