This work is a 2 volume account of an Italian Traveler called Pietro Della Valle, who traveled in the East in the 1610's and 1620's. He toured the Middle East going to a number of cities including Jerusalem, Babylon, Isphan etc. He arrived in India in 1623 and toured the West and the South of India; and from Goa he set sail back home. The book is in a form of a collection of letter that he wrote back home. They are full of vivid description of the cities and towns that he visited; the description of the routes he took, sketch a clear picture in the readers mind. The people are described, so are their rituals, customs, religion, habits, festivals, commerce and inter kingdom politics and hostile arrangement, produce and trade etc all find mention in this fascinating work. The book was a few illustrations and maps. This book is a reprint of the 1892 edition. This book is translated from the old English translation of 1664 by Havers G. It is edited with a note on the life of the author and an introduction by Edward Grey.
