Bangladesh is My Motherland - A Case Study of Bengali and English Language Development and Use Amongst a Group of Bengali Pupils in Britain (Spiral bound)

Based on research undertaken by the Minority Rights Group, this report aims to raise awareness amongst teachers and educationalists, working with bilingual pupils, of what it means to be bilingual. The report uses pupils' own accounts of the experience of being bilingual learners in British society. The case studies featured in this book concentrate on Bengali pupils, making it of particular interest to those working with the Bengali community in Britain. Most of the issues raised, however, will also be relevant to the experiences of other bilinguals. The section on INSET makes the report of value to all those devizing whole-school language policies or providing training on bilingual issues.
