The Resolution of Labour Conflicts (Hardcover)

This book presents the results of an extensive study of labour courts and dispute-resolution procedures in four leading industrialized nations: UK, USA, France and Federal Republic of Germany. The author's aim is to compare and contrast the actual structures of conflict-resolution machinery in each country, and to evaluate their effectiveness with respect to different relationships of voluntary and judicial procedures. Rogowski shows how the various levels of negotiation, conciliation and arbitration can be viewed as filter mechanisms for the labour courts. He considers these courts in depth, in terms of their jurisdiction, organization and litigation styles. The marked contrasts between the countries studied are examined according to their relative effectiveness from the different perspectives of efficiency and justice.
