One Came Home (Hardcover)

Fresh out of high school Matthew Thomas Clark joins the marines to fight in Vietnam. While in country he is taken prisoner and held by a North Vietnamese major who blames him for losing face and ruining his military career. After twenty years he is discovered close to death and brought home where he must learn to live in a world that has changed a great deal since his youth. His family steadfastly supports his efforts but he finds he can better relate to his teenaged niece and nephew than to his brothers and sisters who, while younger than he, are more mature. Stubbornly determined to fit into this new world as a functioning adult, without explaining his past, he attempts to do so while battling misunderstanding from strangers and the effects of PTS that holds his mind locked in the dark cell of mistrust his captors made his entire existence for more that half of his life. Ultimately the help he needs to learn to trust comes from an unlikely source.
