As required by its Statute, the IAEA has been promoting the exchange of scientific and technical information related to the utilization and safety of research reactors for many years. A major avenue for this exchange has been the periodical seminars and symposia and conferences which the Agency has convened on this topic. The conference held in Santiago in November 2003 had five main themes of: utilization; safety; fuel cycle; decommissioning; and waste management. These proceedings contain a summary of the conference, the major findings, with opening addresses and technical papers. Poster presentations are included on an attached CD-ROM.
