Thou hast well nigh run Life's race-I, but left its starting-place. Snares thou hast escap'd, while I Know not even where they lie; So I thank thee for the line Thou hast drawn for path of mine, And will strive to follow there, That I may thy welcome share, To the Poet's sunny home, Where ethereal spirits roam. Little longs my soul for fame--Little cares it for a name--Less shall heed or foe or friend, So my thoughts to virtue tend, So my actions may perchance Teach my Brother to advance Upwards from this clay-cold sod, Nearer Nature--nearer God Wreathe a laurel round thy brow--Thou hast earn'd it long ere now;--May thy sun with glorious ray Brightly gild departing day; May it tinge the western skies With the Spirit's purest dyes, And before it sets in night Shed a flood of holy light O'er thy path, that I may be Gladden'd on to follow thee; And when I for Truth have striven, Follow thee from earth to Heaven A SABBATH SONG.
