First Aid and Emergency Care - A Guide for Health Care Professionals (Paperback)

The objective of the text is to provide nurses (and other HCP's) with easily assimilated guidance, reference based using a series of current medical and nursing publications. This book will encourage the nurse to consider how existing practice can be enhanced by a knowledge of first aid (emergency care) e.g. the recognition and first aid management of surgical shock. This book is divided into a number of sections that will allow the reader to either build upon knowledge, or use the book as an easy reference. Starting with an exploration of the role of the first aider, this section enables the practitioner to appreciate the important aspects of managing the scene of an emergency. Next life-saving procedures and techniques will be described, along with their application within specific settings. Separate sections will also be devoted to the emergency management of medical conditions, trauma and mental health issues. Throughout, especial emphasis will be placed upon safe practices. Exercises based upon scenarios and case studies will be presented, so as to enable the reader to develop their knowledge.
