Wisdom Through Character Development - A Pedagogical Guide to Worship in Schools (Paperback)

This book is designed to provide daily character development activities in a worship format for teachers in elementary grades. Eight character traits are featured scheduled over an 18 week period. All the materials needed are provided as well as a step-by-step process for delivering the lessons. Each character trait unit contains 10 lessons, one for each day taking two weeks to complete. Each lesson is designed to be interactive. Teaching structures organized to ensure responses on all levels of Blooms Taxonomy are detailed in a teacher friendly format. The premise is that getting responses from our students makes their thinking explicit. We can, as teachers, more explicitly assist them in developing their characters as a result. Effective learning principles are built into the lessons. Direct instruction, mastery, specific reinforcement, feedback, review, and a questioning process that ensures all students participate are included. Even though the lessons and units are designed to be complete, teachers can easily make changes and add their own materials. The book includes suggestions for sharing what students have learned with parents, community members, and church groups. Sharing what is learned can be either low-tech or high-tech depending upon the teacher's goals.
