The library and research services of the Asia and Pacific region are a relatively young but vibrant group. Over half of the parliamentary libraries were created after 1970, and several are among the world's largest -- those of Japan, India, Australia, and the Republic of Korea.

The section on Library and Research Services for Parliaments recognizes the central role that information must play in the effective functioning of a democratic legislature.
