Jana Schurman and her friend Kelsie McNeil are passengers on a container ship Konstellation on a three month Pacific Ocean cruise from Houston, Texas. The other passengers are artist Rowan Clardy and an elderly couple, Hank and Denise Thorpe. After leaving the Panama Canal the Konstellation is attacked by an unmarked frigate. Terrorists seize the ship and strip it of all communication and electronic equipment. The five passengers escape being caught by hiding in an empty container and later make it to a Pacific atoll. Problems arise when the characters attempt to live together. Jana and Rowan begin a romance. Hank is not the pleasant old guy Jana at first thought but a predator who makes a pass at her and begins a relationship with Kelsie.
