Jana Adrift (Electronic book text)

Jana Schurman and her friend Kelsie McNeil are passengers on a container ship Konstellation on a three month Pacific Ocean cruise from Houston, Texas. The other passengers are artist Rowan Clardy and an elderly couple, Hank and Denise Thorpe. After leaving the Panama Canal the Konstellation is attacked by an unmarked frigate. Terrorists seize the ship and strip it of all communication and electronic equipment. The five passengers escape being caught by hiding in an empty container and later make it to a Pacific atoll. Problems arise when the characters attempt to live together. Jana and Rowan begin a romance. Hank is not the pleasant old guy Jana at first thought but a predator who makes a pass at her and begins a relationship with Kelsie. Other problems on the island include a storm, a fever that Jana catches and the complete absence of any shipping in the area. After a month the castaways attract the attention of the first boat going by but is it a case of getting into worse danger? The fishing boat that comes into the lagoon to rescue them is flying the North Korean flag. How do Jana and her friends cope? Why do they end up on an isolated shore of New Zealand in the company of the fishing boat's female second officer Ha Min? And why do the North Korean crew follow them ashore and attempt to assassinate Ha Min? Read Ross Richdale's gripping contemporary novel with characters so realistic you feel as though you could call them on a telephone.
