New Ethnicities and Language Use. Language and Globalization. (Electronic book text)

The children and grandchildren of South Asian migrants to the UK are living out British identities which go largely unrecognized, as dominant voices both inside and outside their communities seek to foreground and hold in place alternative positioning of them as primarily Sikhs, Hindus and Muslims or Indians, Pakistanis and Bangladeshis or Punjabi, Gujarati, Hindi, and Urdu speakers. This book emphasizes their everyday low-key Britishness, albeit a Britishness with new inflections. It is this sensibility that marks them as Brasians.
