This is the first scholarly edition of the -Anathomie-, which is the first tractate of Gui de Chauliac's (1300-1368) -Grande Chirurgie- in the French translation found in manuscript H 184 of Montpellier's Bibliotheque de la Faculte de Medecine dating from the 2nd third of the 15th century. It includes an introduction, a lexicographic study of the text, and a glossary. The aim of the lexicographic study is the integration of the ordinary-language and specialized (medical) vocabulary and its meanings into the history of the vocabulary of French. The -Grande Chirurgie- is of major significance as a source of knowledge on medieval French medical terminology."
