Mental disease, chronic mania;-duration, twenty-nine and one-half years. Skull rather dense; diploe scanty; sutures indistinct. Dura mater abnormally adherent to the bone and a little thickened; over both sides of the falx was a distinct neo-membrane, slightly pigmented and stained with small hemorrhages. Brain: Weight, 504-ounces. Pia mater (edematous; arteries at the base showed patches of opacity and thickening of their walls; convolutions shrunken over the whole brain. The t issue was o'deinatous and soft; perivascular spaces enlarged; ventricles dilated. Lungs firmly adherent to chest walls; pleura over left lower lobe converted into a thick calcareous plate. Limited tubercular deposits at apices and scattered nodules throughout the lungs. Pericardial cavity obliterated by old adhesions; the left valves and the tricuspid showed slight thickening. Kidneys were cont racted and cystic. Bladder hypertrophied and sacculated; a small rough calculus was found, and a small papilloma at the entrance to the urethra which partially obstructed the orifice. The liver tissue presented appearances of passive congestion; gall-bladder contained two rough calculi. CASE 1016. J. R.; aged 39; occupation, unknown; nativity, United States. Mental disease, chronic mania; duration, over twelve years. Skull showed some obliteration of sutures. Dura mater showed a thin, pigmented false membrane over the lower portion of both sides of convexity. Brain: Weight, 53J ounces.
