Champ Clark served in this position at a most critical time. During his tenure of office the weight of this country was thrown into the colossal struggle that was in progress on he other side of the Atlantic. There two fundamentally antagonistic civilizations were in a death grapple--types of civilization so fundamentally at variance that both could not continue to exist on the same planet. It was vitally necessary that if the type to which we belong was to survive, the various arms of our government should function smoothly and harmoniously. A strong, patriotic, fearlessdleader of men was needed as Speaker, and so efliciently did Champ Clark fill that role that he earned the undying gratitude of every American. And so I repeat, that in choosing as the title of our Chapter the name of this eminent statesman, loved not only by Missourians but by all Americans, we charge ourselves with the very grave responsiblilty of seeing to it that our conduct, both now in school and later in the practice of law, is worthy of the name of Champ Clark. And I believe that if he were here, the most acceptable thanks we could give him for the use of his name, would be a proper discharge of this obligation." The Champ Clark Chapter is composed of thirty members of a very representative and active character who promise great advancement of the Sigma Nu Phi in the Middle Vest. The installation of the Champ Clark Chapter before the end of the school year will make for a favorable start...
