Soccerstarz – Bobby Zamora Figurine (Queens Park Rangers FC)

Bobby Zamora was another late arrival in January 2012, signing a two-and-a-half-year deal on the final day of the transfer window where he joined up once again with Mark Hughes, who he had worked under at Fulham.

2011/2012 Season

Zamora was expected to play alongside Djibril Cisse in attack for the season's final run of games and all started very brightly when they featured for the first time together against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Loftus Road on February 4th.

Cisse was heavily involved in the build-up to Zamora's debut goal which gave Rangers the lead after 16 minutes.

The R's were creating chances aplenty and looked to be well on their way to an important win against their relegation rivals.

However, Cisse was sent off moments later and suffered a further red card at Sunderland. The subsequent ban for the Frenchman led to Zamora being used as a lone striker for key matches in our relegation run-in - and it proved to be a hugely successful tactic.

So much so, in fact, that Cisse was initially unable to get back into the side when he was available.

Zamora's tireless work-rate and hold-up play was a huge factor in vital wins against Liverpool, Arsenal, Swansea City, Tottenham Hotspur and Stoke City, while he also netted an equaliser against Everton.

Every point, we would later discover, was critical.
