The older girls have been taught machine sewing, have made all varieties of muslin garments, cotton dresses, sheets, pillow cases, towels, and table linen. They have learned to hem-stitch, to do hand hemming, drawn work, and simple embroidery. A cooking class composed of the older girls has done such pastry work as making pies, cakes, cookies, doughnuts and fancy candies. During the past year, Mrs. J. M. Hunter has had charge of the class. The time alloted to the class was devoted wholly to bread making in all its forms. At the close of the year, an exhibit of the work was prepared which reflected great credit upon both pupils and teacher. The work of the sewing and cooking classes is wholly practical. In the sewing classes the pupils furnish the material and make it up into garments that from a part of their school clothing. 'All the products of the cooking class have been used on the pupils' and officers' tables. - REPAIRS AND IMPROVEMENTS All roofs have been repaired and all spoutings either replaced or repaired. All of the buildings on the grounds have been treated to two coats of outside paint. All screen doors and windows and all storm windows have been repaired and painted. All floors, doors, porches, windows, locks, closets, thresholds and storm doors have been put in good order. Much of such work has been done by the boys in the carpenter shop. Hereafter, all such repairs will be made by them. Nearly all the walls a"nd wood work of the entire plant have been renovated with paint, paper, oil or muresco. A hard pine floor was placed in one room. New stair-treads were put on all the stairways in the Boys' Building. Five rooms have been newly plastered.
