The themes written bear direct relation to probable demands on the young women after graduation, and include club papers, book reviews, explanation of processes, addresses on economic subjects, and the like. - a. The purpose of this course is to give to young women a considerable amount of instruction, drill and constructive criticism in the practical essentials of successful speaking. 9 b. PUBLIC SPEAKING. Winter Term. 2 credits. Two recitation hours a week. Prerequisite: English 9 a. Elective, Home Economics Course. This course will include much drill in extemporaneous speaking and in reading. GERMAN The chief purpose of the courses in German is to acquire a practical reading knowledge of the language. Considerable time is also devoted to acquiring a good pronunciation and some knowledge of German literature, life and customs. Students who have never studied German should elect German 1 a in the fall term of their junior year in order to get the benefit of a full two years' course.
