This textbook for students on caring and health-studies courses provides an overview of health and welfare provision, together with an exploration of social-policy issues as they apply to a range of client groups. The book uses the same approach as the author's "Sociology Alive!", each chapter consisting of straightforward text interwoven with a large number of relevant case-study extracts, diagrams, illustrations, research ideas and other exercises, all designed to develop investigative, communicative and research skills. Students are not only encouraged to think for themselves, but also to learn how to collaborate with other students to produce research evidence, and how to contribute positively to group discussion.
