Strategies of Economic Order - From Cameralism to Ordoliberalism

The problem of order - its creation, maintenance and dissolution - has been a central concern of German economists since the 18th century. These essays explore a number of approaches to this problem, reaching from the cameralistic police state to the social market economy of the Ordoliberals, from the national economics of Friedrich List to Otto Neurath's conception of natural economic calculation. The purpose is not to reconstruct a history of economic order; instead, these essays seek to prompt reflection upon modern conceptions of market order and economic process.
