With Some General Remarks On The Past, Present, And Future Condition Of God's Ancient People, To Whom The Command Oe Keeping The Sabbath Day Holy Was First Given. At the request of a few friends I present this little work, first, to show that we, as Christians, are now keeping the Sabbath on the day first set apart by Jehovah, immediately after the creation of the world; and in so doing, I trust that this will be the means of satisfying the minds of many who have hitherto been sceptical on this subject, and of comforting others who may have had their doubts as to the Day on which the Sabbath ought to be kept. With this subject I purpose, secondly, introducing to the reader the spiritual state and condition, past, present, and future, of my own nation--the ancient people of God, to whom the command was first given, "Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy." It is not my intention to make any lengthened remarks as to how this A hallowed day ought to be observed; my object is to notice more especially the Day, whether it be the Sunday, now called the first day of the week, or the Saturday, now called the seventh day. If we can prove the former to have been the day on which Jehovah rested from all his work, we shall accomplish all we desire on this point. There can be no doubt in the Christian mind that the Sabbath is a highly useful institution, in a literal point of view, and a necessary religious ordinance, as a sign between God and man. Every Christian man must know that the command of Jehovah for keeping the Sabbath holy, is binding upon the hearts and consciences of all who believe in him, even as any other command given to us in the moral law.
