The seventeenth annual meeting of the Texas Nurserymen's Association was called to order by the president, Mr. W. B. Munson, at 10 o'clock a. m., Tuesday, September 25, 1917, in the convention hall of the Chamber of Commerce at Waco, Texas. Invocation was offered by the Rev. Mr. E. E. Ingram, of Waco. ADDRESS OP WELCOME. Mr. Driskill of the Waco Chamber of Commerce. In the various conventions that I have attended, I have always felt that an address of welcome was an unnecessary waste of time; have always felt that a convention was welcome wherever it went, especially when we went in response to an invitation from some city, for the purpose of meeting in concert and bettering ourselves and conferring a benefit upon the city that we visited. It naturally follows that the business men of any city are willing and anxious to greet the business men of other cities when they are called upon. There is only one convention that Waco has failed to go after, and that was the bunch that met in Chicago not very long ago. I think all of the cities have convention bureaus and go after conventions, but this bunch failed to find very many invitations. I do not know a great deal about trees or the other phases of your business, but I have recently found that we have some very valuable trees around this country. These have only been discovered since our army camp came to town. The Chamber of Commerce takes a lease from a property owner and then leases to the government. The government fails to appreciate the value of certain pecan and other trees on the land, and in'consequence, the Chamber of Commerce is the "goat." I found pecan trees out there that I had no idea were worth anything like the mone...
