I enjoy this game immensely. Its system is less internally consistent than Pandemic (read: the problems the game throws at you are less predictable). Nevertheless, it is a fantastic game with great art. Some 'books' (i.e. how you compose the titular Big Book of Madness) are harder than others, especially if you get the tentacle monster just after the sorcerer. The game is also harder if you don't get the spells you really want (and you always want Frost Mirror). I like Pandemic better, but this still ranks among the greats for me.
It's a long game. It takes at least 60 minutes to complete, and is quite difficult (even at its easiest setting). It requires group coordination, since it is a co-op. It also has quite a few rules to get the hang of first. It's not a light game to quickly pick up and play with just anyone (like Dixit, for example). A 4-player group seems to be the ideal size. I like the art-style, and it's clearly well thought out. I don't regret the purchase and I'm happy to add it to my collection!
